An annual event took place last week that I find most impressive; 2,500 bicyclists came through Santa Maria on their five day journey from San Francisco to LA. First of all, the purpose of this event is to raise money to fight AIDS. Some of you may remember that I lost a dear friend, David Giesen, to AIDS several years ago. I would love to be in shape so I could make the trip through such beautiful countryside. There are great photos on the website: http://www.aidslifecycle.org/.
Some year I hope to participate although I may have to be a "roadie." Until that time I will continue to do my part by waving and congratulating some of the riders as they come in to camp at MY park for the night and cheering them on the next morning as they take off in their red dresses.
