Farming Dreams

I was excited last weekend to plant tomatoes in my new EarthBox. I have been wanting to try this type of planter since I lived in Bethesda. My yard here in Santa Maria is not very big so container farming is one of my best options. I hope my tomato plants will grow well like the ones in the picture!
It was fun to spend Saturday with my cousin, CB Julien, his wife, Karen, and Dad. We had some good laughs sharing family stories and memories. I was very impressed that they have over twenty fruit trees in their yard! Wow, and I am excited about just two little tomato plants... I have to start somewhere, right?!

Our little garden is struggling, but I like to try and grow something "useful" each year. Grass and flowers are nice but there is something so satisfying about eating food you have grown.

We have a strawberry, lavender and basil plant, all in pots. I love having the fresh basic around. It makes everything taste so good!

I think starting small is a good way (for me) to feel successful. It's funny how much I appreciate the huge bunches of cilantro and basil and other produce you can buy at the store now that I'm growing those in my garden. It hurts me to have to prune out some to make room for the others, etc. I like nurturing my little plants, though!

Our tomatoes are like taking over our whole garden! They're huge. I think I'd rather have a pot of them-- especially since I don't even like the taste of fresh tomatoes. Steve will have to be a busy tomato eater this summer! So fun to share gardening stories!
