Dad and I have taken two excellent classes since last summer.
The first one we took last fall through NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness which is the “nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.” Family-to-Family was a free 12-week course that discussed the clinical treatment of mental illness and taught the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. As many of you know, I have experienced varying levels of depression since 1989 so I thought I was somewhat knowledgeable about mental illness. Little did I know that there was much more I could learn. I hope to stay involved with our local NAMI so I can continue to be educated. To learn more about NAMI and what it offers in your area go to their website at http://www.nami.org/.

It was interesting to see NAMI’s write up on the movie The Soloist that came out last Friday.
The second class Dad and I took was a 4 week class in March through Allan Hancock College Community Education Program. Jane joined us as we learned more about effective breathing, meditation, and many other relaxation techniques from our favorite instructor, Steve Dunlap. Dad, Alicia, and I have all taken classes from him at different times. His warmth, caring, and good humor all contribute to his excellent teaching style. Through his countenance one is able to observe someone living the principles he teaches. Just hearing his voice helps me feel his mantra “safe & calm, peaceful & serene.” Steve’s website: http://www.relaxwithsteve.com/ (Not completed yet.)

Those are two classes I would love to take. They sound great! Wish I could have taken it with you guys! I think it's awesome that you both are trying to be involved in therapeutic interventions for yourselves and for our family.
Testing my new google password.
It worked!
I am glad to find you and Amy talking about mental illness. This is a problem for many people in our family. The more we talk about it, the easier it will be for those affected to seek help.
Imipramine helps me avoid depression. Also, it helps me sleep.
I have enjoyed your excellent blogs for some time now. Now I can comment on yours and Katy, Amy, & Abby's blogs.
