The Twelve Steps

Daily thoughts & meditations based on sharings of Al Anon.

I bought the book, Hope for Today, after attending my first AlAnon meeting back in February of 2006. Al Anon is a "fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems."

A therapist had advised me to go to help me with my codependency issues. I was surprised how much I identified with what everyone was talking about even though I wasn't aware of anyone I had lived with who was an alcoholic.

I definitely could see the value in "the Serenity Prayer:"
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

A couple of years ago I started working the Twelve Steps which has been challenging sometimes but a  wonderful learning experience. (I am working on steps 6 & 7 right now.) There are several slogans which have assisted me on this journey. My favorites are: "progress, not perfection," "easy does it," "let go and let God," and "listen and learn."

I am very impressed with how Twelve Step groups can help people who work the program!!!

I live with the 12 step program in my head, it has helped me so much. I bought a bracelet recently that has the serenity prayer engraved on it. So helpful to me...
