August News

My poor old Honda
I consider myself to be less interested in cars than some people. I used to think it was because I lived in Caracas during the teenage "car-crazy" stage but it may be more due to my father's influence. Does anyone remember the story about the first company he worked for and how he noticed that many of the managers drove old cars and people who had the lower level jobs drove the fancy cars?

That explains why I have felt embarrassed driving my pretty blue 2010 Honda but not why I was so sad to have the transmission on my 1997 Honda die. I don't remember ever feeling attached to a car like this one. I guess I had it longer than any other car and I expected it to last at least as long as Dad's 1990 Honda. But my old Honda survived my terrible driving in the DC area after not driving much for ten years, Alicia as a teenager, Jason in the stage he is in and me not always driving it as carefully as I could. I am sure those things did not help! At least I was able to donate it to a charity organization.

Shinta & I after a bike ride

In 2 months Shinta will be 14 years old! In dog years she is even older than Dad. Unfortunately she has started slowing down and can't keep up with me on walks so we have a new activity. I was able to find a dog carrier that I wear like a back pack and we enjoy biking around the park and my neighborhood. It is an odd picture but the best I could do by myself. :)

Happy September everyone!

We are living in parallel universes, Barbara. I was really sad when my old Subaru was totaled an accident in June.It was my favorite car and had been dependable for the past 8 years. And,my sweet Orah is over 13 years old and has really slowed down. We can go on walks, but anything more active makes her hips give out. Poor sweet dog.
